Introduction

The Hoover Institution’s holdings on Kyrgyzstan are strongest for the post-1991 independence period, although there are mentions of the region in the aftermath of the Russian revolution in the V. Klemm writings and other collections relating to the Russian Civil War ac. Among the significant collections documenting more contemporary issues in Kyrgyzstan are the Kyrgyz subject collection and the RFE/RL Broadcast and Corporate records.

Materials

Kyrgyz subject collection

     1998-2015

Election campaign literature, newspapers, pamphlets, other printed matter, and computer disks relating to political, social and economic conditions in Kyrgyzstan, and especially to elections, primarily in the post-Soviet period.

Klemm (V.) writings

     1922-26

Autobiographical sketch, 1926; a history, entitled Ocherk Revoliutsionnykh Sobytii v Russkoi Srednei Azii (1922); and a translation of the above. Klemm was a White Russian political leader during the Russian Civil War.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Kyrgyz Service Records

     1951-2014

American radio broadcasting organization operating Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty. The Kyrgyz Service records include cover sheets, editor's files, faxes, program reviews, reports, scripts, special programs, and sound recordings. Also known as Radio Azattyk. Target regions include Kyrgyzstan.
