Commonwealth Club of California records: Education: A Resource and a Human Treasure: Shirley M. Hufstedler emphasizes the ever increasing importance of education for California's growth. Describing education as a natural resource, she discusses its unequal distribution, reckless exploitation, and need for renewal. As the first secretary of the new Department of Education, she describes plans and programs for increasing investment in education through mutually beneficial joint-ventures with college faculty members, private organizations, and others.
Education poster collection: Posters from various countries relating to education and educational policy.
Edwards (Lee) papers: Lee Edwards interviews Brad Wilson on 17 November 1998: Lee Edwards interviews Brad Wilson, a political philosopher, about higher education in America during his research for his book on Grove City College. Wilson argues many of the problems of colleges and universities in 1998 are a result of the changes of the 1960s and a resulting politicization of the classroom. The interview has very little to do with Grove City College itself.
Firing Line broadcast records: The Crisis in American Education: Part I: Why are the public schools doing such a poor job? Are the public schools doing a poor job? Four educators with a variety of perspectives--plus their host, who first came to nationwide attention writing on modern college education--go back and forth over these and related questions.
Collected Works of Milton Friedman Project records: The Role of Government in Education: In this 1955 essay, Milton Friedman acknowledges some justifications for government mandates and funding when it comes to education. However, he says it’s difficult to justify government administration of education. He suggests governments could provide parents with vouchers worth a specified maximum sum per child per year to be spent on “approved” educational services.
