The Hoover Institution Library & Archives holds more than 6,000 archival collections that document war, revolution, and peace that shaped our world in the 20th and 21st centuries. This section lists some of our archival collections related to peace and pacifism.

Archival Collections

Fried (Alfred H.) papers: Austrian pacifist; winner, Nobel Peace Prize, 1911.

Friends Committee on National Legislation issuances: Lobbying organization affiliated with the Society of Friends.

Herron (George D.) papers: Unofficial adviser to President Woodrow Wilson.

Janisch (Wolfgang) papers: German photo collage artist and peace activist.

Lewy (Guenter) collection: German-American author and political scientist.

Maverick (Lewis A.) papers: American pacifist. Member of the Henry Ford Peace Expedition and numerous other pacifist groups

National Council for Prevention of War. Western Office (San Francisco) records: The National Council for Prevention of War (NCPW) was founded by Frederick J. Libby on October 21, 1921, as the National Council for Limitation of Armaments. Later evolving into the National Council for Prevention of War, the American pacifist organization had a mission to prevent a trans-Pacific war through progressive world organization, the reduction of armaments by international agreement, and global education for peace.

Peace subject collection: Miscellaneous materials relating to pacifism, disarmament, international law, the Paris Peace Conference, the League of Nations, and other organizations, and plans to ensure peace.

Sagan (Ginetta) papers: American human rights advocate; West Coast coordinator, Amnesty International; vice president, Humanitas; executive director, Aurora Foundation.

Schwimmer (Rosika) papers: Hungarian pacifist and feminist.
