Search Tips

For keyword searches, use one word searches if possible, and be sure to try alternate spellings of names, as well as names in both the format "First Name Last Name" and "Last Name, First Name." If you use more than one search term, enclose the terms in quotation marks.

On the Online Archive of California, for each collection brought up by a search, click on the underlined collection title, and yellow highlights and arrows will lead you to each place in the finding aid where the search term is found.

If you find one result that is particularly relevant, look at the subject terms assigned to it, and try repeating your search using the applicable subject term.
