Bolloten (Burnett) papers, 1909-1987: Bolloten was a United Press war correspondent in Spain from 1936–38. Contains writings, correspondence, serial issues, clippings, other printed matter, and audiovisual materials, relating to political, military and international aspects of the Spanish Civil War. Includes clippings from the Spanish, French, Italian and British press arranged day-by-day, microfilm of Spanish and foreign periodical issues, and copies of papers of Luis Araquistain, relating to the war. Used as research material for the books by Burnett Bolloten, The Grand Camouflage (1961), The Spanish Revolution (1979), and The Spanish Civil War (1991).
Cooley (John K.) papers, 1927-2008: Cooley was an American journalist; Christian Science Monitor Middle East correspondent, 1965-1978; and ABC News Middle East correspondent, 1981-1999. Papers contain memoirs, other writings, notes, correspondence, memoranda, printed matter, and photographs, relating to the Middle East in international affairs; international terrorism, especially in relation to Libya; the Algerian war for independence; the Organisation Armée secrète; and international counterfeiting.
Freeman (Joseph) papers, 1897-1965: Freeman was the editor of New Masses from 1926–37 and editor of the Partisan Review from 1934–36. Contains writings, bound manuscripts, correspondence, printed matter, notes, and photographs relating to Freeman's life, the relation between communism and art and literature, and to communism in the United States, Mexico, and the Soviet Union. Sound use copies of sound recordings available.
Gould (Randall Chase) papers, 1898-1979: American journalist in China. Contains correspondence, writings, clippings, and photographs relating to political and military events in the Far East, especially in China during the Sino-Japanese War of 1937-1945. Includes photographs of the Japanese bombing of Shanghai in 1937.
Soo-Lay (Mah) 馬樹禮 papers, 1941-2000: Documents the activities of Republic of China politician, ambassador, and journalist Mah Soo-lay. These include the speeches and writings, correspondence, printed matter, and audiovisual material relating to political conditions in China and Taiwan, the Kuomintang 中國國民黨, Taiwanese relations with Japan, and the Chinese community in Indonesia, Malaysia, and elsewhere in Asia.
Sterling (Claire) papers, 1936-1994: Sterling was an American journalist and author on organized crime and terrorism. Contains writings, notes, correspondence, reports, photocopies of trial transcripts and interrogations, clippings, other printed matter, sound recordings, and photographs related to the Mafia, organized crime in Italy and the United States, international organized crime, and international terrorism.
Toledano (Ralph de) papers, 1916-2007: American journalist; national reports editor, Newsweek, 1948–60. Correspondence, memoranda, reports, writings, and printed matter, relating to American communism, politics, and journalism, and the Alger Hiss espionage case. Includes 98 letters from Whittaker Chambers about the Hiss case.
Ziffren (Lester) papers, 1933-1989: Contains materials relating to the Spanish Civil War. As Madrid bureau chief for United Press, Ziffren filed dispatches and made nightly radio broadcasts in which he described political, economic, and social conditions in Spain in the period prior to the outbreak of the Civil War and during the first six months of the conflict itself. The Speeches and Writings series of the papers contains compilations of Ziffren's articles and dispatches, as well as transcripts of his radio broadcasts.
