Introduction to the Collection

These collections are particularly strong in the areas of scientific expeditions of and military-related activities and development in the most southern continent, Antarctica. 

Featured Collections

Hubert Gregory Schenck papers - There is 1 album containing 161 photos of Lt. Colonel H. G. Schenck on a Japanese whaling expedition in the Antarctic.

Russell (Bruce) cartoon - Relates to the Antarctic Treaty of 1959.

Buckmaster (Elliott) photographs - Depicts E. Buckmaster and other officers, naval vessels, and American naval operations in the Bay of Whales, Antarctica.

Kinet (Urbain Joseph) papers - Writings, field notes, reports, correspondence, maps, sound recordings, and photographs, relating to study of the ethnology, flora and fauna, mineralogy, geology, meteorology and geography of the Lake Tanganyika and neighboring regions in Africa, and of Antarctica.
